PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Sunday removed its ban on travelers from 10 African countries after a nearly one-week suspension due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19, Health Minister Mam Bunheng said.

With the approval from Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Ministry of Health (MoH) decided to lift the ban on travelers from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Angola and Zambia, he said, adding that the ban removal took effect immediately. MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- Some 500 tons of food and clothing donated by China have arrived in Afghanistan's border city of Hairatan, northern Balkh province, a local official has said.

A total of 27 containers packed with 500 tons of food and clothing entered Afghanistan via the Hairatan port on Thursday and Friday. The supplies will be delivered to different provinces and will be distributed among the needy people, Abdul Matin Sayyed from the provincial custom office told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-China-Donation)

JAKARTA -- At least 14 people were killed and nine villagers remained missing after Mount Semeru in Lumajang district of Indonesia's East Java province erupted on Saturday, the National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency's acting spokesman Abdul Muhari said on Sunday.

Downpours were predicted to fall through the crater and slope of the volcano in the next three days, which may slow the search and evacuation of the victims, Muhari said. (Indonesia-Mt. Semeru-Eruption)

NEW DELHI -- The first case of Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in Delhi, with the total number rising to five in India, according to Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain.

"The patient admitted to LNJP Hospital had returned from Tanzania," tweeted a private news agency quoting the health minister. "Till now, 17 people who tested positive for COVID have been admitted to the hospital."

Meanwhile, one Omicron case has been detected in southwestern state of Maharashtra and another one in western state of Gujarat. (India-COVID-19-Omicron)

CANBERRA -- Australia's medical regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), on Sunday provisionally approved Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine for children aged between 5 and 11

Health Minister Greg Hunt said the federal government now expects the vaccine rollout for that cohort to start on Jan. 10 pending approval from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ATAGI). (Australia-Vaccine-Children)
