CANBERRA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Australian government has launched an advertising campaign seeking to reassure Australians of the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.
Minister for Health Greg Hunt said on Wednesday that the 24-million-Australian dollar (18.5-million-U.S. dollar) campaign would be rolled out across TV, radio, print and digital media.
It comes two days after the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the medical regulator, approved the Pfizer vaccine for use in Australia.
"The campaign will keep Australians fully informed and up to date about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines as they become available, including when, how and where to get the jab," Hunt said in a statement.
"Australia is a vaccination nation - we have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world," he said.
"I am confident, given Australia's high vaccination coverage rates that Australians will take up a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine in equally high numbers."
Australia's vaccinations are set to begin in late February with health care workers and the elderly to receive priority access.
The government is optimistic that all Australians who want a COVID-19 vaccine will have received one by October.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been 28,780 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia, and the numbers of locally and overseas acquired cases in the last 24 hours were zero and four respectively, according to the latest figures updated on Tuesday evening from the Department of Health.
